90 years and running

Our Roots

MRS was born in 1931, amid the Great Depression. Robert A. Boyd Sr. rented a warehouse in Paterson, New Jersey, and sold wood from southern mills on consignment. He called his business Manufacturers Reserve Supply, Inc. (MRS). He built a reputation with suppliers and lumber dealers based on trust and service. MRS evolved into a premier wholesale building materials distributor based out of Irvington, NJ, family-owned and operated by four generations of the Boyd family.

Steve Boyd

Steve has worked at MRS since 1979 and represents the 3rd generation of Boyd’s at MRS. He has had every job from forklift operator (still seen today on the lift occasionally), inside sales, outside sales, dispatch, inventory control, buyer, President and now Chairman and still buyer of WRC shakes and shingles.

He is very proud of the culture at MRS and the “can do” attitude of all the employees. He’s convinced that our culture is what sets us apart from our competitors.

Steve was honored to serve as the President/Chairman of the North American Wholesale Lumber Association (NAWLA) in 1999-2000 and served on their Executive Committee for 14 years. At the time he served, NAWLA had 685 members and about $6 billion in sales.

When he’s not dropping knowledge in the office or helping out in the warehouse, you can find Steve out on the golf course perfecting his game. He’s an avid golf player and still plays competitively from time to time. He served as the President of the Metropolitan Golf Association from 2014-2016 representing over 500 golf clubs in the Metropolitan NY, NJ, CT area.

Steve also serves on various Boards of Directors inside and outside of the industry.
